The Groes is a refreshing mixture of styles. At its heart is a famous hostelry, dating back to the 15th century and reputedly the first inn to be granted a licence in Wales (in 1573). The inn’s low ceilings, exposed beams, rambling rooms, old portraits and roaring log fires preserve an authentic sense of history. Then comes the second string to the Groes’s bow – a series of superb contemporary rooms which blend perfectly with the inn’s historic fabric. Add to all of this the inn’s excellent home-cooked food, and you can see why its reputation as an outstandingly friendly and characterful place to eat and drink also embraces a wonderful place to stay.

In contrast to the inn’s cosy, traditional atmosphere, the bedrooms are airy and spacious. Each room – some with balconies, others with private gardens – is fully equipped with all modern comforts. All make the most of the Groes’s superb location with views eastwards across the Conwy Valley and westwards to the mountains of Snowdonia. Guests enjoy the flexibility of dining in one of the bars or the inn’s more formal Victorian restaurant. There are yet more reasons for choosing the Groes – its exceptional value for money, its setting close to the mountains, coast and historic Conwy, and the warm welcome you’ll receive from Dawn and Justin Humphreys or their friendly team led by Sarah Corkish. And you must try the Groes's own beer, which is only sold here. The accommodation here also includes a luxury one-bedroomed self-catering cabin, complete with hot tub and those same beautiful views, (guests can, if they wish, eat at the Groes).
