Appearances can be deceptive. From the outside Rhiwafallen looks like a farmhouse or traditional country home. Inside, everything is fresh from the pages of the latest interior design magazine. Rhiwafallen’s transformation is down to the energy and commitment of Kate and Rob John. This personable, highly experienced couple make a formidable team. Kate looks after her guests while Rob works wonders in the kitchen. Rhiwafallen has quickly established a reputation, acknowledged in the foodie guidebooks, as the place to dine in these parts, attracting locals and visitors alike. Everything on Rob’s inventive, seasonal menus, which 'skip with flair and imagination though excellent Welsh ingrediants', is cooked fresh using the best of what's available locally.

Fittingly for a restaurant with rooms, the food and the surroundings in which it is served are in complete accord. Mirroring the kitchen’s mix of classic skills with a modern twist is the combination of traditional farmhouse features and cool, contemporary design. Subtle lighting, soothing, muted tones, original artworks and natural materials are much in evidence. Together with your hosts’ warm and friendly welcome, it all helps create a relaxed and unstressed ‘home from home’ for today’s travellers. Neither will guests be disappointed with the bedrooms, all of which display a characteristic attention to detail – and, again, that mix of period features and comforting neutral tones. The location’s excellent too. Set in two acres of gardens, Rhiwafallen is close to Caernarfon and its celebrated castle (a World Heritage Site) and on the doorstep of the best of Snowdonia. The restaurant is closed on Sunday evenings and Mondays.
