We have a policy in Rarebits of only including a few places in a given area if they are all very different. Boy, did we not have a problem with this newcomer to Pembrokeshire’s ranks. Where do we start in describing Slebech Park? Let’s be clear that it’s not a hotel in the conventional sense. In fact, convention has nothing whatsoever to do with it. And it’s likely to appeal to people who are actively seeking something completely different. So it’s not a country house hotel with comfy lounges where you mix with your fellow guests. Neither is it just an historic property. Or a restaurant. Or a whopping great country estate. It’s all of these… and more. The long private drive through exquisite woodlands is a giveaway that you’re somewhere very special. It leads to the seductive shores of the Eastern Cleddau, a remote branch of the mighty Milford Haven waterway.

By now, you’re at the heart of a magnificent 600-acre private country estate, the courtyard of which contains a fine dining restaurant and exceptional apartments and suites that take the wow! factor as a given and double it. Subtle colours, great taste and inventive, high-end interior design shine through in everything from the wall hangings to the ‘phenomenally comfortable’ (and vast) beds. As a bonus (not that one is needed) state-of-the-art kitchens are also provided. This purposefully modern approach in a country context is the work of Georgina and Geoffrey Philipps. Staying at their stunning family estate is an experience that will appeal to those with reclusive, discriminating tendencies – and also to parties looking for the ultimate private venue.
