Sychnant Pass House, as its name implies, has the ambience of a country house rather than that of a hotel. It’s an important distinction. Sychnant Pass combines a relaxed informality with a rigorous attention to detail, truly personal service with the highest standards of accommodation. The hotel, overseen by owners Bre and Graham Carrington-Sykes, is managed by Suzanne Wilbrahams. Like Bre and Graham, Suzanne is an experienced and extremely hospitable host who embodies Sychnant’s ethos of professionalism with a personal touch. Everything works seamlessly well in this comfortable, convivial place. You can spend hours in the big, warmly decorated sitting rooms with their equally big sofas. Or wander around the beautiful grounds in a peaceful setting on a spectacular mountain pass high above the North Wales coast and Conwy, a medieval town dominated by its formidable, World Heritage designated castle.

Upstairs mirrors downstairs in elegance, with luxuriously appointed suites and rooms. Some have their own private hot tubs, galleries and terraces. All come with those little extras and luxuries you’d expect to find in a hotel of this quality. There’s also a well-sized indoor heated swimming pool and modern leisure centre complete with sauna, hot tub, gymnasium and treatment room. Mention must also be made of the kitchen: Sychnant’s guests enjoy good food that relies on fresh, seasonal produce. The hotel is run to a winning formula − it’s all about fastidious standards without fussiness. Or, if you prefer, laid-back luxury. Don’t expect formality. By the same token, don’t expect to be a stranger for long.
