What an interesting prospect! We have known Jan and Martin James for many years. They ran their own highly successful restaurant with rooms (which was part of our sister scheme Great Little Places) and know the hotel and hospitality business inside out. They are now the new owners of Tŷ’n Rhos, and are in the process of returning this beautifully located country house to its full and former glory. Tŷ’n Rhos comes with an auspicious history. This former farmhouse was one of Wales’s leading farm guest houses and restaurants before a change of use. Now, with new owners comes new life and vigour – and Tŷ’n Rhos’s return to form with a fresh agenda for the 21st century.

Martin is a talented chef, well known and respected in Wales – and in the ‘good food’ guides – for his uncompromising commitment to serving the best cuisine using the finest fresh ingredients (in Tŷ’n Rhos he has his own garden just outside the kitchen). Work is currently underway on a wholescale refurbishment and remodelling of this fine old house to offer guest accommodation inspired by classic and contemporary influences. For what was originally a humble farmstead Tŷ’n Rhos has unusual qualities. The public rooms and bedrooms are surprisingly spacious and there’s a large, modern conservatory that looks out across the 50-acre grounds towards the Isle of Anglesey. Standing between Snowdonia and the sea, it’s the ideal touring base.
