We have known Jan and Martin James for many years. They ran their own highly successful restaurant with rooms (which was part of our sister scheme Great Little Places) and know the hotel and hospitality business inside out. They have now moved onwards and upwards to Tŷ’n Rhos, and over the last few years have returned this beautifully located country house to its former glory. Actually, they have gone one better. Tŷ’n Rhos comes with an auspicious history as one of Wales’s leading farm guest houses and restaurants. Jan and Martin are writing a new chapter, having brought fresh ideas and contemporary elegance to the house. Individually designed bedrooms, quality furnishings and a host of stylish touches were all part of an extensive refurbishment, giving Tŷ’n Rhos an air of modern luxury.

There’s another reason to beat your path to this born-again country house. You’ll enjoy comfort and cuisine. Martin is a talented chef, well known and respected in Wales – and in the ‘good food’ guides – for his uncompromising commitment to serving the best cuisine using the finest fresh ingredients (much from his own garden just outside the kitchen). For what was originally a humble farmstead Tŷ’n Rhos has unusual qualities. The public rooms and bedrooms are surprisingly spacious and there’s a large, modern conservatory that looks out across the 72-acre grounds towards the Isle of Anglesey. Standing between Snowdonia and the sea, it’s the ideal touring base for North Wales.
