Are you looking for something in which only the French seem to specialise? You know the kind of place - a comfortable country auberge where you’re knocked out by the quality of the food. Then look no further than The Crown. Quietly tucked away on a wooded hillside in the heart of the Whitebrook Valley just off the Wye, this gastronomic hideaway attracts lovers of the outstanding food produced by Michelin-starred Executive Chef James Sommerin.
The Crown can lay claim to being Wales’s first ‘restaurant with rooms’. It’s without doubt one of the country’s top-rated restaurants, attracting rave reviews and a foodie clientele from far and wide. Under the experienced stewardship of David Hennigan it goes from strength to strength. Great attention has been devoted to the rooms as well as the food.
The bedrooms are compact but exceedingly comfortable and luxurious. All are individually styled with a contemporary look and are equipped with the latest multi-media systems so guests can enjoy the best of both worlds - good food and good accommodation. Nonetheless, the restaurant remains at the heart of this idyllic little hotel. The very best local produce is used in preparing The Crown’s French-influenced modern cuisine.
The leafy location adds to the magic. The hotel is set above the stretch of the Wye Valley that is designated an ‘Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty’. In the unlikely event of guests needing to build up an appetite, there are plenty of outdoor diversions, including walking (on some outstandingly beautiful woodland trails), fishing (in the famed River Wye), and golf.
