Rooms 5 Style Classic
Strangely enough, the abundant beauty of north Pembrokeshire is not matched by a great choice of quality places to stay. This goes some way to explaining why Crug-Glas is so popular (book early if you’re coming in summer).
It’s a small country house on a very big farm. Your hosts Janet and Perkin Evans look after the 600-acre spread, though please don’t think that you’ll be staying in a typical Welsh farmhouse. Janet is a tireless host and excellent cook. At Crug-Glas she has created a highly rated country house that combines homeliness with superior standards.
The house’s sober exterior gives little hint of what lies within. There’s a tremendous amount of space thanks to Crug-Glas’s Georgian ancestry. The rooms, mainly decorated in a traditional style with rich fabrics, grand furnishings, family heirlooms and attractive bathrooms, are warm and welcoming. But Crug-Glas’s repertoire isn’t just confined to traditional melodies. At the top of the house there’s a large suite decorated in cool, contemporary style, while two former farm buildings in the grounds have been transformed into sleek, brand-new suites.
Crug-Glas is the kind of place in which you can put your feet up after a day walking the nearby Pembrokeshire Coast Path - in fact, many of Janet’s guests do just that. And all of them look forward to her traditional cooking based on the best quality produce. It’s all about true flavour, says Janet: ’People like to taste what they asked for.’
They also fall head over heels for Janet’s legendary cream teas.
