More Information

‘Eat, Drink, Sleep’ it says on the sign outside the Griffin. Such a plain and simple exhortation doesn’t really do justice to what awaits within this country inn with a difference. Until recently, inns were fairly predictable places-low of beam, dark of corner and creaky of bed. The Griffin is one of a new breed. The creation of a young, dynamic team led by brothers Charles and Edmund Inkin and Julie Bell, the Griffin takes the concept of the traditional pub, shakes it around, and comes up with something that could be labelled as ‘contemporary country’.

Judging by the awards it has received, it’s a winning formula. Let’s take the ‘Eating’ as a starter. Hearty pub grub has been given wide berth in favour of the modern, lighter style of cooking. It’s a sophisticated menu allied to an outstanding wine list. The produce - and provenance - is as local as it gets (some of it comes from the Griffin’s own organic kitchen garden). The ‘Drinking’, along with the eating, takes place in the most amenable of surroundings - an open-plan series of rooms and spaces, with an intriguing mix of old fireplaces and trendy black-and-white photographs, old beams and unfussy decor, iconic Aga and funky mementoes.

The ‘Sleeping’ side also has a decidedly contemporary feel, notwithstanding the choice of four-poster beds. The bedrooms are neat, simple and comfortable, with quality beds and linen - and no televisions, so you’ll just have to wander down to the bar. Felin Fach Griffin is located close to the heart of the Brecon Beacons National Park, with a huge choice of outdoor activities available locally.
