We’re in the heart of nonconformist Wales with this Welsh Rarebit, so it’s appropriate that Jabajak charts its own highly individual path. It’s a country retreat, but don’t expect the usual country house hotel surroundings. Jabajak is an eclectic mix of Welsh and worldwide influences, reflecting the travels of your friendly hosts Amanda, Julian, Lorraine and John. They travelled widely before returning home to Wales and settling down in this rural farm complex. With energy and enthusiasm they have transformed their hilltop abode into a small hotel and fine dining restaurant.
It says a lot for Amanda’s skills in the kitchen that guests come from far and wide to enjoy her cooking. Her Welsh / international menu is crafted around freshness and locally sourced produce, much of it direct from Jabajak’s own seven acres of land.
The immediate surroundings are superb too - you dine in the lovingly converted old grain house. Jabajak’s quality accommodation is comfortable and unostentatious, with a choice of four-poster beds and suites plus a new luxury suite with its own private entrance. The large guest lounge epitomises Jabajak’s multi-dimensional character, with an inglenook fireplace, baby grand piano and stunning Moroccan furnishings. Your hosts have also transformed the grounds, with extensive landscaping and the planting of their own vineyard, which produces its first wine in 2010 (ask about the wine tasting events and packages). Red kites feed here every day. Some visitors like the stress-free surroundings so much they rarely venture outside. When they do, they find Pembrokeshire, Carmarthenshire and Ceredigion all on the doorstep.
