Rooms 5 Style Contemporary
Tan-y-Foel is a founder member of that exclusive club of luxury country hideaways. Located in wooded hills just outside Betws-y-Coed, this characterful stone-built house has a truly intimate atmosphere appreciated by guests who can’t help coming back for more.
Dating in part from the 16th century, its traditional appearance belies what lies within, for it has been exquisitely refurbished in a sympathetic style that fuses period and contemporary influences, mixing subtle shades with unabashed comfort.
Your hosts, Peter, Janet and Kelly Pitman, go out of their way to provide a personal style of service which larger places would find impossible to emulate, efforts that have been recognised by many prestigious awards. They succeed admirably in their aim of combining five-star service with a homely atmosphere.
Guests enjoy personal attention in every sense from the Pitmans: Janet is an award-winning chef, preparing interesting French-style cuisine based on quality local produce. The extremely comfortable bedrooms - some with four-posters - are all individually decorated with great flair. Lots of thoughtful little touches add to their charm, and the bathrooms are delightful.
The house’s peaceful location is another memorable feature. It stands in its own wooded grounds high on a hillside with wonderful views across the verdant Conwy Valley towards the rugged peaks of Snowdonia. It’s an extremely versatile touring base. The attractive mountain resort of Betws-y-Coed, at the gateway to Snowdon’s highest peaks, is just minutes away, while just to the north there’s the National Trust’s beautiful Bodnant Garden, castle-crowned Conwy and the charming resort of Llandudno. Hotel closed December and January (and restaurant closed Sunday and Monday).
