The Penrallt Country House Hotel

Understated luxury is, perhaps, an often-overused phrase, but it is hard to think of anything that describes the Penrallt’s relaxed vibe more accurately. Tom and Angela have breathed new life into the grand old lady, a new outlook, a new direction, and a new style.

Map of Mid Wales

Their approachable personalities shine through in their team who consistently deliver a genuinely warm, but unfussy welcome, against a backdrop of uncompromising standards.  The newly refurbished house now has a fresh contemporary feel whilst echoing the elegance of its original Edwardian seaside chic.

There are twenty-three lovely rooms here, the ten spacious garden rooms (adjacent to the main House) being just perfect for travelling with four-legged friends.  Every room has a unique unstuffy interior, and as befits a period house, retain a classical colour palette.  We loved the balconies in the more luxurious rooms with their sweeping views out across Cardigan Bay to the horizon, tempting you to take on the half mile potter, through the grounds, down to the beach.  The addition of two stylish and calming new treatment rooms topped off a chilled weekend in West Wales. Dinner in the aptly named Bay View dining room is a relaxed but stylish affair, meticulous local ingredient sourcing being the star of the show, and an easily navigated wine list full of greatest hits make it a night to remember. The locally famous full works Sunday lunch requires a few hours to appreciate fully.

Days out to the explore some of the rugged beauty of the Ceredigion & North Pembrokeshire coast, go dolphin spotting in the bay, or tick off a little of the amazing All Wales Coastal Path are all within striking distance, but having a go at clay pigeon shooting in the estate might well be all the adrenalin-fueled adventure you need.

Plans are afoot for making the most of that panoramic view, and even the re-birth of the swimming pool & Spa, but for now the focus is on delivering a getaway from it all destination escape, free from old school hotel pretensions, away from the crowds, in a stunning undiscovered corner of West Wales.
